Genesis: Teaching Videos
Genesis isn’t a science textbook, and it isn’t a children’s book. It’s the opening of God’s story — the part the rest of the Bible keeps reaching back for. This series is an invitation to slow down and read it carefully, one chapter at a time.
This is a seven-minute manuscript series. Short episodes, one passage at a time, with the same simple rhythm running underneath every video.
Read the page, not your memory. When we already know a story — creation, the fall, the flood, Abraham and Isaac — the temptation is to skim. Each episode opens by reading the passage out loud, slowly, so the text itself can do its work before any teaching begins.
Observe before you interpret. Every episode follows the same three movements: notice what’s actually on the page (repeated words, names, patterns of speech), then ask what those observations might mean, and only then ask how it might shape the way you live this week. It’s the approach that has slowly reshaped my own reading of Scripture, and I want to hand it on.
Open Bible, colored pencils welcome. The series was originally taught alongside a printed handout you could mark up as we went. The videos still work just as well with whatever Bible you already have open in front of you — circle the repeated words, underline the names, draw arrows where the text echoes itself. The point is to get your eyes (and your hand) on the page.
Genesis is the foundation. Almost every theme the rest of the Bible develops — image-bearing, blessing, covenant, exile, promise, sacrifice — gets its first words here. Reading Genesis well makes the rest of Scripture easier to read.
