IF IT'S YOUR FIRST TIME
Show up. We'll handle the rest.
“First Sundays at a new church can feel awkward — like everyone else knows the rhythm and you don’t.”
We get it. So here’s the deal: park anywhere, sit anywhere, wear anything. Nobody’s going to call you out from up front, or ask you to stand.
But we will say hello. We’ll learn your name if you’re open to it. Someone will probably offer you coffee—and maybe a conversation. Not because we have to, but because we actually want to.
Come once and see how it feels. Take your time. Ask questions if you have them. We’re here to help you find a place to belong—and to encounter God in a way that’s real, honest, and grounded in Scripture.
WHAT HAPPENS SUNDAY
A typical Sunday at Grace Hill.
Here's how the morning unfolds — minute by minute, so nothing surprises you.
No need to rush — but if you arrive early, you’ll have time to settle in and meet a greeter.
Our worship team leads a blend of contemporary songs and beloved hymns. Kids stay with their families for this part and often join in. Led by Worship Pastor Jane Liddle.
We pray and read Scripture together. Some Sundays we recite the Lord’s Prayer or the Apostles’ Creed. Children often participate. If it’s new to you, just follow along.
K–5 dismissed after opening worship and liturgy (you can also keep your kids with you — up to you!). A teacher meets them at the back. Nursery available from 9:30.
Pastor Tyler preaches 25–30 minutes, verse-by-verse through Scripture. Bring a Bible or use YouVersion.
Service wraps around 10:40. People tend to linger.
Donuts and coffee every Sunday. Monthly church potluck — bring a dish or just show up. This is where Grace Hill feels most like home.
IF YOU'RE BRINGING KIDS
Your kids are part of this — not a side thing.
We have nursery from 9:30 AM for infants and toddlers, and Sunday School for K–5 that begins after the opening worship and liturgy (around 9:50). Older kids stay with their families through the sermon. We pray the Lord's Prayer together. Yes, kids whisper. Yes, snacks happen. We're a family church, and we mean it.
And if you'd rather keep your kids with you the whole service — including the sermon — please do. Pastor Tyler says he loves the sound of kids when he's preaching.
"Melanie and I have four kids — Penny, Jane, Alice, and Johnny. They sit with us in the sanctuary, they join in the Lord's Prayer, and yes, they occasionally drop things and whisper too loud. We wouldn't have it any other way. A church with children's voices in it is a church that's alive."
STILL WONDERING
Common questions, answered.
-
Free parking in our lot off DeWitt Avenue. Overflow parking is on the street. If the lot looks full or you're not sure where to go, a greeter near the entrance can point the way.
-
Whatever you're comfortable in. You'll see jeans, you'll see Sunday best, and some weeks you'll see kids in costumes. Nobody's checking.
-
A blend of contemporary worship songs and beloved hymns, led by Worship Pastor Jane Liddle and our team. Lyrics are on the screen. Singing along is welcome — but never required. We also have a quarterly “Hymn-Sing” that connects us to our ancient roots.
-
No. We don't single out visitors from up front. We often have a time of greeting the people sitting around us. Of course, if you’d like to talk with any of our pastors or elders we would love to meet you.
-
Just yourself. Pastor Tyler encourages everyone to open a Bible and follow along — but we have Bibles you can borrow on the way in, or you can use the YouVersion app on your phone. Coffee is provided.
-
We don’t stick to just one translation. Pastor Tyler regularly teaches from different ones, because each brings out something unique in the text.
You’re welcome to read along with whatever Bible you have—or just follow on the screen. Sometimes hearing the same passage in a different translation helps you notice something you hadn’t before.
-
Yes. The sanctuary is on one level, with accessible parking near the entrance and accessible restrooms inside. If you have specific needs we can prepare for, email info@grace-hill.org ahead of time and we'll make sure things are ready.
-
Absolutely. Plenty of people at Grace Hill came in with questions, doubts, or no church background at all. You don't have to have it figured out to belong here. Come, listen, ask questions.
-
We share communion together on the first Sunday of the month. If you're a follower of Jesus and would like to participate, you're welcome at the table. There’s no pressure to join if it’s not for you.

Talk to Pastor Tyler before Sunday.
"Got a question — about the service, about your kids, about what we believe? Or do you just need to talk to a pastor and share a prayer request? I read every message and write back personally."
